Before Miami School of the Arts had a name, it had a purpose. That purpose came to life through an original student production called RISE , a musical created to explore the experiences of young people navigating identity, acceptance, and the impact of bullying and social media. What began as a conversation with students became something much bigger.

Through music, storytelling, and performance, students discovered that their voices mattered and that the arts could create conversations that reached beyond the stage. The celebration after the final performance became a defining moment. Students, families, teachers, and supporters gathered together to celebrate not only the production, but the message behind it. An unforgettable after-party brought everyone together, including a former student who arrived in a glowing robot costume to perform percussion and help create a night of music, dancing, and connection. Students from different groups who had rarely interacted before were suddenly celebrating together as one community.The response was overwhelming.

Families and supporters shared the same message again and again: "Mind-blowing. Beautiful. Important." That night, something else was born: the color that would become a symbol of MSA. Royal Blue. Inspired by its connection to anti-bullying awareness and the blue worn by the performers, families, and supporters throughout the weekend, Royal Blue became more than a color. It became a representation of unity, excellence, confidence, and standing together. Soon, an entire community was wearing blue — in performances, events, and celebrations — creating a visual reminder that we belonged to something bigger.

 

Today, Royal Blue represents the spirit of Miami School of the Arts and its blueprint:

A community where artists support each other, where every voice matters, and where we strive to reach the highest level of excellence. Blue became our color. But the meaning behind it became our identity.
